Will this be enough to prevent Skin Tanning?
I live in San Diego, CA, poway district (is that too specific?…oh well)
I really do not want to wear sunscreen because of the chemicals in it, so I wear a hat, long sleeves and a light/normal jacket, and long jeans. Is that enough to prevent skin tanning?
Yes, the most effective sunscreen is a physical barrier and this is a hat, shirt and shorts.
Chemical sunscreens have been linked to increased rates of skin cancers over the past 40 years due to the fact that many of them contain retinols or oxybenzone. Retinol is also known as vitamin A and becomes toxic or carcinogenic when exposed to sunlight.
Just remember that you should allow yourself some sun exposure every day though. This will increase your tolerance for UV exposure and will actually assist in preventing melanoma and Skin Cancer. Melanoma often occur on parts of the body that do not get any sun exposure at all. So you do need to climatise your skin to environmental factors that surround you.
